There's an interesting article on the Londonist website about Myddelton House Gardens with the title This botanical garden is home to the bits of London that nobody else wanted. I was aware that the gardens had one or two objects that had originally been somewhere else (such as Enfield Market Cross, shown in the photo above), but hadn't realised quite how many of them there are and quite how unusual some of them are.

One thing that becomes clear, though, is that the writer was previously unaware of the New River and (at the time of writing at any rate) is still unaware that, although it no longer flows through Myddelton House Gardens, the New River still exists and is still fulfilling its original function.
