[Original article]

The reopening of Palmers Green's largest pub, the Alfred Herring, has been put back by a week and will now take place on 15th December

alfred herring grand opening dec 2024 600pxThe "grand opening" of the Alfred Herring is scheduled for 15th December (which is actually a Sunday, not a Saturday)

Promotional material issued on behalf of the new operators of the Alfred Herring in Green Lanes, Palmers Green, promises that the former Wetherspoon's hostelry is "set to make its mark on the London pub scene once again" following its "grand opening" on 15th September:

Expect fantastic drinks offers, live music, DJs (every Friday evening), weekly menu specials, sports coverage and so much more.

Join the team for their grand opening on 15th December 2024 or visit 7 days a week thereafter.

For more information or to follow their journey, you can find them across social media at @thealfredherring or at www.thealfredherring.co.uk.

On social media the new operators are promoting "special drinks offers" between noon and 5pm on Mondays to Fridays. The relaunched venue's "First Party Night" is scheduled for Friday 20th December, when DJ Elvin will be hosting an 80s and 90s night from 9.30pm until "late", featuring free entry and "drinks offers".

As revealed by PGC last week, the company leasing the Alfred Herring, Kov Industries, is owned by the same family as the snooker club on the first floor of the same building.

Clarification

Earlier versions of this post stated that the reopening would be on "Saturday 15th December", as shown on the flyer above. However, 15th December is a Sunday. My impression is that the correct date is Sunday 15th December but will seek clarification from the public relations firm that are promoting this.

Poster needs changing. Either wrong day or date. Dec 15th is Sunday.

Not a good start when they can't even get the date right - but in any case sounds like a pub I wouldn't want to go within a mile of.

Thanks for pointing this out, Neil. The information sent to me by email was that the opening date will be 15th December, with no day of the week mentioned, preceded by a private launch event on 14th December. However, the flyer that was emailed to me incorrectly says "Saturday 15th December". My impression is that 15th is correct  - it's obviously more sensible to launch on a quieter day of the week - but I will seek to confirm this.
