A "grand launch party" this Friday, Saturday and Sunday featuring live Irish music will celebrate the reopening of one of Palmers Green's few pubs, now renamed in memory of a much missed local tree.

The former Wishing Well has been comprehensively refurbished at a cost of £180,000 and its new name, The Chestnut Tree, has been chosen to commemorate the impressive horse chestnut that for three hundred years occupied the triangular traffic island that gives its name to the road junction at the heart of Palmers Green.

As well as a new name, the Chestnut Tree has a new landlady, Sara Downes, who's looking forward to welcoming customers:

“I’ve been out and about meeting residents and workers in Palmers Green, and it has been great getting to know people and I hope to see as many of them as possible in the pub. I’m really excited to get started here, and the team and I want to create a wonderful community pub for everyone in the area.”

Sara is planning new weekly entertainment in the form of quiz nights and open mic nights. The pub is both pet and family-friendly, with children welcome until 7pm.

TV screens throughout the pub will show all major sporting events on Sky Sports and BT Sport. A special feature is an illuminated darts board.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
