This week's newsletter was almost ready to be "put to bed" when some exciting news arrived, sent by Liz from the Palmers Green Action Team and "hot from the oven".

A Trader Target bulls-eye for the PG Action Team

Trader Target 🎯

exterior of holtwhites bakery in chase side enfieldOne of the cornerstones of our volunteer group is to match businesses we admire who exist outside of PG to empty units on our local high street.

It was 18 months ago that we first approached Holtwhites Bakery & Deli and told them about vacant space in Palmers Green and how much we would love them to join our community.

Today, we are delighted to share that they are the new tenants of the former Baskervilles unit on Aldermans Hill and will soon be embarking on a refit.

If you’re not familiar with Holtwhites and their existing Enfield Chase branch, then you soon will be: their cakes, deli counter, pastries and bread are something special. We can’t wait to welcome Kate and Richard to the PG community and we know they will be very warmly received.

This is the first of, we hope, many Trader Target projects for PGAT; more in the pipeline!

This is fantastic news and a cracking location for them. They are a truly standout bakery. We often make the journey the chase for their sandwiches, pastries, cheese counter and coffee.

Holtwhites will continue to bake their bread in Enfield, but production of pastries will move to PG.

The news of the PG shop has been greeted with tremendous enthusiasm on the Holtwhites Facebook page .

Before refitting of the shop begins, some of the furniture and fittings that were in Baskervilles will be sold off between 2 and 6pm on Sunday (8th August). Proceeds will be shared between the Palmers Green Action Team and the Ruth Winston Centre.

Holtwhites will need a lot of new staff for the PG shop - bakers, baristas, cooks, cleaners, drivers, kitchen porters and shop staff at all levels. If you or anyone you know is interested, they should email .

Holtwhites opened their Palmers Green branch today - judging from the size of the queue it has been eagerly awaited!

I think Holtwhites bakery is a good addition to PG. The problem however is the cost of a loaf of bread. I paid £2.65 for a loaf, though nice, which is far too much and I would be better off walking the extra few yards to Yaser Halims to get fresh bread at half of the price.

Great if you are walking that! It's over a mile away so I doubt many people will see them as substitutable options.

I love Holtwhites but it is very much a premium offer.

Really wish Yaser would hurry up with it's Southgate opening though as have been dying for some Fios competition....

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.
