Anyone remember Greigson's?

Just curious as to whether anyone remembers this shop when it was Greigson's, knows who the Greigsons were and what they sold.

Last summer this shop, next door to the barber's shop near the corner with Hedge Lane, was selling some very nice ice cream, Bennetts, made on a farm near Worcester, and a real rarity in this part of the country, though having been born in Worcestershire, not a new name to me. The temporary occupiers - Polish, Russian, Turkish and probably some more nationalities - had turned it into a haven for mothers and small children, with toys to play with while their mums enjoyed the delicious ice cream. It seemed to be doing quite well, though I never thought it would survive the coming of winter.

If you tried the ice cream and liked it, don't despair. Bennetts have had an outlet inside Wood Green Shopping City/Mall for the last two or three years, near the side entrance to Boots. If it looks a little "loud" and not the kind of place you'd find farmhouse dairy ice cream, that's because it still looks the same as when it used to sell some far inferior make of ice cream. And it seems to have a steady trade, even in winter, presumably because people go back for more.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
