This weekend's
walk suggested by the Londonist
will be familiar to many PGC readers, as it passes through Palmers Green. It's the Pymmes Brook Trail, which starts on Monken Hadley Common and finishes at Pickett's Lock on the River Lea.
The source of the Pymmes Brook isn't a spring, but a lake. Water tumbles over the edge of Jack's Lake, which is perched on top of a small hill, and runs downhill. The Londonist walks you through the route a step at a time (pun intended). Not wildly interesting at first - too many diversions away from the stream. It gets nicer of course as you approach Palmers Green, because to my mind the pleasantest parts are the Waterfall Walk from Osidge to Waterfall Road, then alongside the stream through Arnos Park and eventually into Broomfield Park.
Personally, I prefer to go along the Waterfall Walk in the opposite direction, because it's uphill and thus much more invigorating. Beautiful in both directions though.
