For sale - a house in Gentleman's Row with a rather special room...

Any readers able to rustle up the odd £2.8 million might want to consider a house that's currently on the market in Enfield Town. The estate agent handling the sale describes Little Park in Gentleman's Row as a "6 bedroom character property", but unusually for Estate Agent-speak that's really something of an understatement

What makes Little Park special is its "Tudor Room", previously part of Enfield Manor House, which was demolished in 1937 to make room for Pearsons department store (the Manor House was also known as Enfield Palace - hence Palace Gardens). According to this week's Mail on Sunday , the Tudor Room actually predated the Palace, having been moved there from another building. The Mail speculates that this may have been Elsyng Palace, a long demolished royal palace located in what are now the grounds of Forty Hall The Mail goes further, suggesting that it was in this very room that Elizabeth I was informed of the death of her father, Henry VIII, which links the story very neatly with everyone's current favourite TV show..

That's as maybe, and the fact that this theory isn't mentioned in the Enfield Society's article about Enfield Palace suggests that it is of dubious accuracy (in contrast to everything else that appears in the Mail), but despite this I think that this particular property is well worth viewing. And the price has gone down - when it was mentioned by the Telegraph last year the asking price was £3 million.

Despite the higher price, the Telegraph's version of the story is somewhat less sensational. No mention of Henry VIII or Elizabeth, and it's only the fireplace that might have come from Elsyng.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
