Disability Action Haringey (DAH) - Disability Action Haringey ( d-a-h.org ) - is a new charity that was formed in 2020 with the aim of supporting deaf & disabled people in the London Borough of Haringey (UK) so as to maintain their independence and freedom. We are committed to the social model of disability and building a society that accepts and accommodates everyone.

DAH is highlighting and supporting people too understand the amazing employment opportunities that exist in Haringey as a Personal (Care) Assistant. This work can be part-time and flexible and a PA can work for more than one DP holder at the same time.

Therefore, it is likely to fit around other commitments. These important roles are paid at the rate of the London Living Wage.

DAH is seeking respectful and considerate Personal (care) Assistants (PA) to support people with disabilities who are Direct Payment (DP) holders within the borough. You will be employed directly by the DP holder and we can support you in finding individuals who are currently recruiting.

The PA role will be tailored according to the DP holder’s requirements, so they are varied and different. The types of tasks may involve:

Household (including but not exclusively); food preparation, shopping, household / domestic work, looking after pets etc.
Social / Leisure / Education (including but not exclusively); assistance in taking part in leisure activities, e.g. going to the café, meeting friends etc.

Personal Care (including but not exclusively:; assistance in getting in and out of bed, dressing and undressing, washing, bathing and showering etc.

You will be able to choose the DP holder you work for and therefore the kind of work you do – so long as the DP holder chooses to interview you and then employ you.

You are welcome to register on the website we use for matching DP holders with PAs. Please select ‘Haringey’ as the borough you would like to register for as a PA on: www.find-a-pa.co.uk .

You are also welcome to join one of our monthly PA Information sessions. If you wish to register, please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
