Ahead of May's council elections, London clean air campaigners Mums for Lungs have published their list of four "asks" that they will be putting to all parties who will be standing candidates.

Mums for Lungs will be contacting political parties directly, but would also like individuals and other groups to do the same..

Mums for Lungs: Our four asks

  1. A clean air cabinet member in every borough
  2. A diesel-free borough by 2030 (they have a list of suggestions as to how this could be achieved).
  3. Councils to campaign against wood burning
  4. A School Street at every school by 2025, with an alternative package of support where this is not feasible

Read more about the four asks and how they could be put into practice

Wood burners emit more particle pollution than traffic - “It’s a public health catastrophe, so wood-burning stoves need to be banned urgently.”
In commenting (30/1/22) on the Bowes LTN and specifically the London mayor’s ambition to substantially reduce vehicle use to improve air quality I expressed a wish he also focus on wood burning stoves towards the same end. The later webmaster posting highlighted one of three council election ”asks” of Mums for Lungs is for “councils to campaign against wood burning”.

This subsequent press article, based on recent data, should surely dispel any objections to the direction.
