A couple of incidents this week gives the opportunity to pass on police advice to a wider audience.
“Nottingham Knockers”, door-to-door cold callers typically selling cleaning goods, are encountered a few times per year in my street. The first contact will typically result in a Whats App warning to the other residents and doors are then often not opened. A Google of “Nottingham Knockers” will give detailed information and warnings of what not to do, but outside of any crime-linked connections, verbal abuse and even threats are not uncommon when declining a purchase. Local police advice is to call 101 in such circumstances, or if a resident wants to pass on general information about them. 999 in an emergency case.
The second was a couple walking the street in the middle of the day trying car doors. A police call resulted in an officer on foot and a response car and while someone broadly matching the description was stopped, the real culprits had escaped. Photos are now with the police. While nothing appeared to have been taken, one car had been entered. The police requested even this be reported and will be logged as vehicle interference
