I received reports from contacts on WhatsApp between 2pm and 3pm this afternoon about an alleged hit-and-run incident near the Triangle. It seems that the driver of a black Mercedes travelling north along Green Lanes and said to be speeding collided with two delivery riders, both of whom were taken to hospital, at least one of them seriously injured. The driver reportedly did not stop but continued up Aldermans Hill.

The incident appeared to happen earlier than quoted, at about 1:30. Ambulances were at the scene and a section of Green Lanes, roughly from the Triangle to the (ex) Inn on The Green, was closed both ways for a period. I’ve no more information but if speeding was a factor, then this seems to be a growing issue locally.
The Ward Panel in June heard much concern to the extent that it was agreed as one of our current police priorities. The police will take their own actions, but we don’t have to sit on our own hands. Here’s a few thoughts:·
If we all take a little time to push back we can make inroads. This is what Southgate SNT recently pushed out to residents:
If you've seen a problem or been involved in an incident on the roads, report it here using our quick and simple online tool.

If the problem is so bad then lets all get it out in the open. Reporting means much more likelihood of action; not reporting guarantees nothing will happen.

- A heavily branded delivery wagon made a few high speed passes up my own street. Identifying was easy so that’s now with the companies CEO’s and after a subsequent discussion there will be action at the individual and also company wide level to stop it.·
- A car did likewise, easily topping 50mph, but not fast enough to evade someone’s residential CCTV. Details now with the police who plan to act.
