In this latest meeting we were joined by police responsible for areas outside of PG as well as Bambos, our MP. The extra knowledge and reach proved useful.
This was our longest meeting by far to date with a lot of ground covered and what will hopefully be positive change from some of the resulting actions.
After the last CAPE, PG has been the focus of undercover activity plus many visits from the Tactical Support Group (TSG). Some may have noticed the latter’s large blue vans but hopefully no one noticed the former. The general idea is that we all do our best on the basics to keep lower-level crime at bay – lock cars, hide valuables, user timer lights and so forth (get the Owl app for ideas and guidance) - while the police stamp down on the more unusual and serious matters, supported by central resource as just happened, where necessary.
So much of this depends on us all reporting: we were made aware of where there are gaps in data to support intelligent policing but also heard of an example where provided information led to one thing which then led the police to another and possible a third, which ideally will see a fall off in car crime – a result totally unrelated to the information start point. So, if you want a better PG then do report stuff, not to Whats App or your other groups, but the police or other appropriate authority.
There is an idea to roll out a refuge scheme in PG for any schoolkids who feel they may be in danger. There’s a small amount of initial work involved to get it operating so if any parent in particular would like to support then please make contact. As a voluntary effort it may not happen otherwise.
The committee heard – again - from the police of a small number of residents implying blame for all manner of things on certain ethnic groups. If there is an issue then do report it, if not then it’s past time to cease.
Thanks again to The Fox for hosting plus refreshments.
