A street party weekend in Palmers Green with events occurring in Old Park Road, Broomfield Avenue and Osborne Road (at least). Straightforward to organise and great for street-spirit. Street closure details are on the council’s web site. If not this year, there is plenty of time to plan your own 2025 event.

Last weekend was the Great Get Together weekend, the annual celebration of everything that unites our communities, inspired by Jo Cox’s belief that there is more which unites us than divides us. Jo Cox MP, was a young mother of two, shot and repeatedly stabbed to death in cold blood during the daytime in a normal English town by a nationalist of the far right. The Great Get Together was set up in memory and an appropriate time for a uniting street party. There are many other weekends in the year, such as The Big Lunch or nothing in particular.

The photo is of this year’s Starfish café sponsored “Wacky Race” in Old Park Road, won I think by a child in a recycling bin.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
