In this time of Covid, the poor (as always) are suffering the worst. Fairtrade, always a lifeline, is now even more important. It works by guaranteeing growers of some basic crops (coffee, cocoa, tea, bananas and many others) a price for what they grow that will never drop below a level permitting them a decent life. There is also a premium paid which the local community decides how to spend; they might fund a health post or a teacher, or a lorry to get their produce to market more easily.

The Enfield Fairtrade Campaign has not been very active of recent years, but now we are kick-starting it back into action. The Steering Group has been reformed and we are starting to look around for actions and projects to promote Fairtrade in the Enfield Community.

We are looking for people to:
  1. join the Steering Group, which will initially meet monthly by Zoom, later less frequently
  2. put forward your ideas for ways we can promote Fairtrade in Enfield
  3. invite a speaker to your place of worship, school or other group
  4. just go on the mailing list
... and whichever of those you pick (or none) - keep buying Fairtrade products!

You can read a fuller description of how it works at https://www.fairtrade.org.uk/What-is-Fairtrade

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
