save a crustUp to 24 million slices of bread are wasted every day in UK, contributing to £800 worth of food being thrown away by the average household in UK every year. North London Waste Authority has commissioned Keep Britain Tidy to hold some free events across north London to help residents avoid bread waste and save money.

Cookery workshops
Seven free cookery workshops will be held, one in each north London borough, with qualified professional chefs allowing residents to get more involved and try their hand at cooking bread-based dishes themselves. Tips and tools to help participants prevent food waste will be provided throughout the events, which will include demonstrations and practical cooking activities. A maximum of 20 residents will be able to attend each workshop and participants will be required to register in advance by following the link (it will shortly be available for all events) on the specific event they are interested in.

Outdoor event
A free outdoor event with a live cookery demonstration will be held on 2 February 2019 at Hollywood Green (180 High Road, Wood Green, London N22 6EJ), in Haringey, where all residents are welcome to come and learn more about bread waste prevention. Clover Hutson from Artisan Cooks will present the show and food samples will be offered to participants along with recipe cards and food waste reduction tools. The cookery demonstration will showcase a range of delicious bread based dishes, such as panzanella and ribollita soup, which will be available for visitors to try on the day. Attendees will also be able to learn how to make their bread last longer and take away the recipes for the dishes cooked on the day.

If you can’t wait for the events and want to get inspired, check out the North London Food Lovers Cookbook which has some great bread-based dishes! The Food Lovers Cookbook can be downloaded for FREE.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
