Enfield Poets

Enfield Poets began life as the Salisbury House Poets in 2000. Founded by Anthony Fisher, Valerie Darville, and the late Jane Elder, its primary purpose is to provide an opportunity for local poets to perform their work in a supportive and stimulating environment, as part of a monthly series of live readings featuring guest poets.

Poetry in Palmers Green

Poetry in Palmers Green was started by Katherine Gallagher, Joanna Cameron and Myra Schneider in 2006 or thereabouts.  For several years it put on readings twice a year in St John’s Church in Palmers Green. Since 2011 readings have been held in the adjoining Parish Centre. With the help of a committee which currently includes Katherine, Myra, Maggie Butt, Martyn Crucefix, Kaye Lee, Christine Vial and Julian Bishop we continue to put on one or  two readings a year to attentive audiences. We feature five poets at different stages in their career, usually including North London poets and guest poets from other parts of London and further afield. We also include a short session of floor readers and, when they are free, the delightful Helios Consort play for us at the beginning of the evening and immediately after the interval.

For the past few years Poetry in Palmers Green has been in residence at Palmers Green library, where it puts on two or three writing workshops each year, an afternoon of poetry and talks and, on one occasion, a discussion workshop.

Members have also read at other venues including in the Dugdale Centre at the Enfield Literary Festival in 2018.

The group has an active Facebook page.

Please contact Myra Schneider as   if you would like to go on the Poetry in Palmers Green mailing list and you will receive emails about our readings and other events. We very much welcome newcomers who like hearing poetry, also writers of poetry.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
