Whether or not you believe the stories about ancient scrolls and witches under the pond, there's no doubt that thousands of children and their parents were spellbound by the extraordinary happenings in Broomfield Park on Saturday night.
There were no tricks at this Halloween event. Visitors of all ages were treated to imaginative storytelling, open air theatre, puppet shows, strange costumes, eery illuminations, glowing pumpkins and spooky bottles, all culminating at 7pm in the Scream.......

Streetz Ahead thrilled unsuspecting shoppers in Morrisons Palmers Green on Sunday when their flash mob Thriller dancers launched a week of Palmers Scream pre-events.

At 5.30pm on Halloween (31st October) Broomfield Park will be lit up by Spooky Lanterns, each containing a glo-stick, provided free courtesy of Range Homes.
There will be two family drop-in sessions to help you make lanterns:
Thursday 29th October from 3.30pm at Kiva Cafe (corner Green Lanes and Hazelwood Lane)
Friday 30th October 10.30 to 11.30am in Palmers Green Library
If you can't make either session, just decorate a plastic milk bottle to bring to the boating pond at Broomfield.......

These six kids are the spookiest writers in Walker and Hazelwood Schools - and that's official. Their stories were selected by an expert panel from 200 entries in the Palmers Scream Spooky Stories Competition.

Palmers Scream have published more details of the great prizes that children can win by writing a spooky story
Great Prizes to be won by children writing a spooky story for Palmers Scream.
If you are 8-12 you can win a prize by writing a scary story about your area. Whether about the Bogwarts of Bounds Green, the witches of Winchmore Hill, the spookiness of Southgate, apparitions of Arnos or the phantoms of Palmers Green, we want you to create a story that we will all enjoy!

The rather mysterious "Palmers Scream" website has information about a story writing competition for local 8 to 12-year olds:
"Whether about the Bogwarts of Bounds Green, the witches of Winchmore Hill, the spookiness of Southgate, apparitions of Arnos or the phantoms of Palmers Green, we want you to create a story that we will all enjoy!"
There are some excellent prizes and the first fifty entries will receive a copy of the Spooky Tales of Palmers Green book.

The mysterious "Palmers Scream" scroll, discovered in Southgate Town Hall, says that "Broomfield should be a happy place. All effort should be taken to bring joy and merriment to its grasses throughout the year, for each smile reduces the power of the witches as they sleep." One group of people who are rising to the challenge of "bringing joy and merriment to its grasses" are the Friends of Broomfield Park, who this year are extending the season of summer free musical events to take in.......

The Palmers Scream website has had a facelift and some interesting new material has appeared there, including a video of an interview with Palmers Green resident extraordinaire Ralph Hutchings. The story he tells is one he's kept under wraps for thirty years.
Ralph was one of the volunteers working with conservators after the first Broomfield House fire. He and others removed the famous Lanscroon Murals for preservation. Behind the murals, buried in the bricks of the wall, they.......

In response to the message of the mysterious "Palmers Scream" manuscript, a group of local authors have teamed up with an illustrator to launch an initiative aimed at releasing "joyful creativity" in local people, whether adults or schoolchildren. To support their goal they have produced a book, organised collaborations with schools, businesses and other local groups, and set up a special website.

We have obtained photographic evidence that the "old document" discovered by workmen in the former Southgate Town Hall does exist and its content is, to say the least, extraordinary.
The photographs, supplied by an anonymous source, show an old scroll that appears to have been found in a small wooden case. There are also photographs of the writing.......
