The Save Bowes Southgate Green campaign group is planning to protest outside the Civic Centre between 1pm and 3pm on Friday 29th November. The campaign says the protest will only be called off if the council provides an update on its work to find a permanent home for the primary school.

On the 5th September, the Save Bowes Southgate Green Action Group, Fox Lane and District’s Resident Association met with Enfield Council. This meeting was called by Enfield Council as a follow up to a meeting held on the 18th July between parents, Enfield Council, the Enfield Learning Trust and Broomfield School in response to a petition signed by 1093 parents and members of the local community who want the school to remain open beyond 2023. Our lease with Broomfield School expires in 2023 and the school needs to find a permanent home as a matter of urgency.

At the 5th September meeting, Enfield Council agreed that there was a need for the school in the area, a fact supported by the Council’s ‘Strategy and Approach to Delivering Pupil Places’ and in communications by Cllr Barnes, Keith Rowley of LBE and Cllr Achilleas Georgiou on numerous occasions throughout 2018 and 2019. At this meeting, Enfield Council agreed to a number of vital actions towards finding BSG a permanent home.

It has been 12 weeks since we met and Enfield Council have failed to provide any update or information regarding the above, despite our continued best endeavours to make contact. The silence leads us to conclude that nothing has happened (yet again) despite what was agreed in good faith.

In response to this, we informed Enfield Council last week that if we did not receive a reply, the parents and community would be left with no option, but to protest outside their offices (yet again) at the Civic Centre this coming Friday.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
