bowes southgate green school posterEnfield Learning Trust has agreed to continue taking reception pupils at Bowes Southgate Green School for at least one more year.

According to a report in the Enfield Independent, the academy chain's chief executive wrote to parents last week to inform them that the school, in Wilmer Way, will now take reception pupils for the year starting September 2020. Previously the Trust had said that 2019 would be the last year it would do so.

The change of mind has come about because, following the launch of a petition which has now gained over a thousand supporters and a meeting on 18th July between Enfield Learning Trust representatives, local politicians and council officers, Enfield Council has agreed to fund a "bulge class" for a further year, rather than offering funding only on a per-pupil basis.

The longer-term outlook, however, remains unclear because of uncertainties about leasing accommodation from Broomfield School (the owners of the Wilmer Way site) and the possible revival of an earlier plan to build a new primary school in the Bourne, Southgate.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
