A new development proposed for Hobart Corner, New Southgate, would consist of two high-rise residential blocks with commercial spaces on the ground floor. The new buildings, providing 183 new homes, will replace the gasholder which was demolished in September, after serving as a local landmark since the 1930s. City & Suburban Homes hope to submit a planning application this winter. In the meantime, there is an online consultation to gauge local opinion.

Southgate District Civic Voice's latest newsletter includes photographs taken by Colin Barratt during the demolition process. SDCV has arranged with the trustees of New Southgate Millennium Green for the installation of an interpretation board on the Green, explaining the history of the gasholder and associated gasworks. A finial from the top of one of the gasholder columns will be installed next to the interpretation board.

I followed the link to the Consultation website but the Have Your Say link didn't seem to work. Anyone else managed to leave comments?

A planning application has now been submitted for the redevelopment of the site of the former gas holder at Hobart Corner. Two tower blocks, 14 and 19 storeys high, would accommodate 182 flats. The development is close to both New Southgate and Arnos Grove stations and would have only a few parking spaces, for blue badge holders. The developers envisage an existing nearby controlled parking zone being expanded and no on-street parking being available for residents of the new flats.

The planning application reference is 20/04193/FUL and documentation can be found on the online planning portal .

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
