In common with all parts of England, the NHS in Enfield is suffering from shortages of GPs and hospital staff, accident and emergency departments at the North Mid and Barnet hospitals are struggling and patients are having to wait longer for planned operations. Enfield's NHS is not alone in being underfunded too, but even compared with neighbouring north London boroughs Enfield suffers from a particularly severe funding problem. And, again like everywhere in England, Enfield's NHS is in the middle of a major reorganisation. As at 21st January 2,878 people had signed an online petition calling on Enfield Council to protect the golf course, woods and open areas at Whitewebbs.
London Sport is carrying out research on behalf of Enfield and Haringey councils into participation in sport and physical activity amongst Turkish and Kurdish populations living across both boroughs. Statistics show that Turkish and Kurdish residents are less physically active than other residents, which can negatively affect their health. The research is aimed at finding out why this is and what could be done to improve the amount of physical activity by Turkish and Kurdish residents.
