"I would love to but would feel far too embarrassed". "I think it would be great fun but I don't have the confidence to actually do it".
What would your response be if someone asked you to participate in a drama class? The trouble is, our 4-year-old self probably wouldn't respond, as they'd be into that class quicker than you can say 'Shakespeare'.
As we get older, we get more inhibited, insecure, reserved, self-aware. Which is no surprise because from as young as 14 yrs old we're being tested and marked on our abilities, pushed to reach targets, get the grades, get a good job, and so on. And whether we like it or not, we are always being judged. Of course, we are growing into hard-working, high achieving individuals but sometimes our sense of play disappears.
Remember when you were four years old and you used to role-play? Whether it be hosting a tea party for your teddy bears or building a den with every duvet in the house? This is imaginative play at its best. This is escapism. This is what so many of us never experience again due to fear of embarrassment or lack of confidence.
We would like to invite you to be brave and give it a go. Our weekly drama classes are aimed at anyone 13yrs and over with little or no acting experience.
Each week we play, we improvise and have fun. We cover acting skills such as Character Development, Scene Study, Devising, Movement and Voice skills, Mask work and much more. For an hour and a half every week, you are welcome to come and release that inner child in you that loves to explore their imagination.
Monday Adult Class.
