Among the range of projects funded through the Untold Edmonton programme is the making of a film about Pymmes Park, the "lungs of Edmonton". Below, producer, artistic director and editor João Giacchin describes what he aims to achieve.

We are excited to announce an exceptional endeavour that has been made possible through the unwavering support and enthusiasm of our community. Thanks to the funding from Enfield Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund under the 'Untold Edmonton' grant scheme, we embark on an inspiring cinematic journey to capture the essence of our beloved local gem, Pymmes Park.

Exploring Cultural Lives - Pymmes Park, the Lungs of Edmonton is a poetic documentary that will showcase the stories of the local people and communities connected to Pymmes Park, past, present and future. Over the course of a year, we will capture the timeless beauty and profound significance of Pymmes Park through our lens.

A project's success is indeed measured by the happiness and pride it instils in our neighbours. When the community actively engages, sharing their knowledge, skills, and smiles, it becomes a testament to the positive impact of the project. We are profoundly grateful for the warmth and involvement of our community, and we aspire to create a project that touches the hearts of everyone.

We would like to say thanks to our partners in this film project:

João Giacchin: mountaineer, poet, sculptor, photographer, film director and more...

João Giacchin 1I was born in southern Brazil, in Rio Grande do Sul. My passion for poetry was ignited at a young age, inspired by my uncle, a well-known Brazilian poet, composer, and musician. In Brazil I pursued wood sculpting and lyricist painting, alongside my love for mountaineering and rock climbing. I worked as climbing photographer for mountaineering magazines and always had a love and connection to nature and the natural world. My journey over the years has led me to live in four countries: Brazil, Italy, Spain, and now England. I settled in England when I met my partner Hana and have family together. We now live in Edmonton.

For the past eight years I have been a self-taught student of audio-visual production and cinematography. Together with my family, we launched the 'Exploring Cultural Lives' project, aimed at collaborating on film projects with people from diverse backgrounds in our current community. Our family-owned production companies, Saotome-Giacchin Music Films and Altplan Filmes, specialize in music films and documentary projects, respectively.

Hana Saotome, my partner, is an integral part of our 'Exploring Cultural Lives' . She works as dance teacher and Yoga teacher trainer with many years of experience working within a community setting. She is the also loving mother of our adorable three-year-old son. The three of us are deeply involved in bringing this cinematic vision to life.

For a deeper insight into our project, we invite you to visit our YouTube channel, 'Exploring Cultural Lives,' where you can find a captivating video slideshow that offers a glimpse into our cinematic endeavour.
