Woodcroft Wildspace volunteer teams are continuing work to improve the former sports ground in Winchmore Hill which they have been converting into an area where people can take pleasure in nature, as well as learning about insects, birds, small mammals, pond life, plants and trees.

The Friends of Woodcroft Wildspace have been in existence since 2003 and now number 1000 members. Since 2004 they have been gradually working towards the plan shown on the map. Last year the future continuation of the nature reserve was confirmed, though part of the site was sold by Enfield Council to a housing developer. In 2011 beehives were installed and an apple orchard planted.

Two ongoing projects begun this year are the digging of a well and the creation of a sensory garden for visually impaired visitors.

woodcroftmapWoodcroft is always keen to recruit new volunteers, not only to carry out the exterior work, but also for various support roles. In particular, they currently need people to join the following teams:

  • Grant/Fund Application
  • PR/Marketing
  • Site Guides
  • Schools/Community Liaison
  • Membership
  • Volunteers
  • The Friends of Woodcroft
  • Website
  • Corporate
  • Distribution
  • Organic
  • Sensory Garden
  • Beekeeping.

The Wildspace is open to the public from 9am every day until dusk in the winter or 5.30pm in summer.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
