[Original article]

A new limited stop bus route began operation at the weekend, linking Walthamstow Central with North Finchley via Edmonton, Palmers Green, Arnos Grove and New Southgate.

stops served by the sl1 superlink bus routeThe SL1 only calls at these bus stops (screenshots from the highly recommended app London Bus Pal)

The new SL1 bus route, which calls at only 11 stops between the two end points, runs along the North Circular Road through PG, stopping just east of the junction with Green Lanes when going towards North Finchley and to the west of the junction (at the Palmerston Road stop) when heading for Walthamstow. It will combine with further Superloop-branded buses to form a complete circle around the capital. The SL10, linking North Finchley with Harrow, also began operating recently.

Like other Superlink routes, buses on the SL1 have USB ports for charging mobile phones. The SL1 interconnects with 48 other bus routes and four train lines.

The SL1 will run every twelve minutes Monday to Saturday and every 15 minutes in the evening and on Sundays. Much of the route runs parallel to the long established stopping route 34. Daytime frequencies on the 34 have been reduced from every 8 minutes to every 10 minutes, but evening and Sunday frequencies are unaffected, remaining every 12 minutes.

An early passenger on the SL1 was James Cracknell, editor of Enfield Dispatch. His journey between Angel Corner in Edmonton and Arnos Grove station took only ten minutes.

I read this morning that Palmerston Road has been removed from the Super-Loop service and saw a TfL post on the subject which I cannot attach to this message but will keep it for reference.

The TfL website is showing conflicting information. On the one hand, it's showing SL1 arrival times, as expected. On the other hand, it states "this stop has now been removed from the route and we cannot show you the timetable".

I suspect that the second bit is an error. The acid test would be to go down to the stop and see if the SL1 calls in.

Superloop PG has the feel of our trains about it: promise 6, get 4 end up with 2. Far better it instead operated on the migration-scale: promise a few tens of thousands and end up north of 1.2 million.

I used the SL1 today - it calls at Palmerston Road stop (going east) and the east side of Green Lanes (travelling west). It was speedy when in the bus lanes but got stuck where the lane ends.
