[Original article]

if not now then when if not us then whoEnfield Climate Action Forum's Education Working Group is looking at ways of getting the climate and ecological emergency discussed, debated and taught in schools across the borough - from nursery right up to further and higher education. They're planning to run a competition for primary and secondary school pupils, which they'll be launching during this year's Big Green Week. Pupils will be invited to make a poster or a one-minute video on the theme of Love Your Planet.

Maggie and Zoey, the competition organisers, are looking for suitable secondary schools to film examples of best practice in teaching climate change subjects. If anyone reading this works in a secondary school or has contacts at one, they'd be grateful if you could get in touch. Also, it would be helpful if you could share this appeal on social media or by email.

LOVE YOUR PLANET COMPETITION

Enfield Climate Action Forum: Education Working Group

encaf logo square 400pxWe represent the Education Working Group that is part of Enfield Climate Action Forum (EnCAF). We've been looking at ways to raise awareness of Climate Change across schools in the borough. And to try and integrate climate change topics into the national curriculum.

We have explored a number of possibilities and have decided to launch a climate-themed competition during the Big Green Week festival (27th Sept - 2nd Oct 2022).

What’s the competition?

The competition is going to be called: "Love your Planet". And we're inviting Enfield primary and secondary school pupils to make a posteror one minute film/TikTok/reelto show their concerns and/or some solutions for climate change. This competition will be launched to tie in with the national Big Green Week in (27 Sept - 2nd Oct 2022).

The aims of the competition are:

  1. raise awareness of the climate crisis,
  2. highlight good practice in Enfield schools
  3. enable young people to feel there is something they can do.

To promote the competition, we are going to make x2 short promo videos that teachers can show in class. These promo videos will draw attention to the climate crisis, show best practice in a few schools and encourage the students to enter our competition. We have an agreement from Middlesex University that BA Film students will make these videos over the next three to four weeks.

What we need right now

We are looking for secondary schools where our uni students can film best practice. Do you have any contact with secondary schools? If so, could you introduce them to us?

We also have some interest from the Festival and Culture team at Enfield Council to promote our competition and use Enfield Culture Palace as a venue to showcase the artwork/competition entries.

Longer term

We’d love everyone to spread the word about the competition and get their local schools excited about it.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
