Young Alexis Pointdextre, passionately in love with Aline Sangazure, dreams of spreading romance to all. He enlists the help of John Wellington Wells, a mischievous sorcerer, who brews a magical love potion causing villagers to fall in love with the first person they see.
Chaos ensues as unexpected pairings emerge, turning the village upside down. The vicar becomes smitten with a lively barmaid, while aristocrats and commoners alike navigate the hilarious consequences of their new affections. Amidst the pandemonium, Alexis and Aline must confront the true nature of love and the repercussions of tampering with fate.
