Enfield Society Talk: Newbury Football Club

Monday 17 March 7.30pm

Jubilee Hall, 2 Parsonage Lane, Enfield, EN2 0AJ

Avril Nanton, Director of Avril’s Walks and Talks, will tell the tale of a little known but massively important local football squad that made waves in the Black community. The club, Newbury Football Club, were the only all Black youth team in Enfield. In 2024 Eastenders actor Rudolph Walker made a film about the club, called “When Newbury Ruled”, which looked at the lasting impact the team had at the time.

A regular programme of talks is arranged by the Enfield Society. These are free to members and non-members are welcome to attend for a modest charge (typically £1 per meeting). Refreshments will be available and our sales counter will be open. Jubilee Hall, 2 Parsonage Lane, is near the junction with Chase Side and there is an access ramp for wheelchairs.
