We've said it before, but we'll keep saying it till the Government takes action: The NHS is in crisis but the model isn’t broken.
The NHS has been starved of funds and ever-increasing privatisation has only made things worse. Wards are under-staffed, workers poorly paid, terms and conditions under attack, waiting lists in their millions, hospitals are crumbling. And the consequences are devastating.
The Government says the NHS ‘must reform or die’ - an unfortunate turn of phrase when so many have already died unnecessarily due to the avoidable NHS crisis.
Secretary of State for health Wes Streeting has recently launched a ‘national conversation’ about the NHS on the Change.NHS.UK website. While we encourage supporters to use the site to let ministers know what we think of current NHS policy, the public already knows what the NHS needs.
91% of the public think healthcare should be free at the point of need, 82% agree that taxes not private investment should fund the NHS and a further 83% believe that the NHS has a major or severe funding problem (Kingsfund).
That's why Keep Our NHS Public leads the biggest grouping of NHS campaigners ever formed in Britain SOSNHS.ORG, in calling for the three things that we know the NHS needs and the public already wants:
1) Emergency NHS funding 2) Better pay for NHS workers and 3) An end to NHS privatisation
