Thursday 24 October 7.00pm

Dugdale Arts Centre, London Road, Enfield Town EN2 6DS

202410 romeo n juliet 4eva

Join us for an inspiring evening as Black Heritage Hub proudly presents a special screening of the film Romeo N Juliet 4EVA, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Bucknor, producer of the UK's The Full Monty and Better Mus’ Come.

Set in Jamaica’s volatile Payneland, this reimagining of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet breathes fresh life into the classic story through the lens of young people. Featuring talented first-time actors from Haile Selassie High School, the film explores themes that strongly align with this year’s Black History Month theme: Reclaiming the Narrative.

The struggles faced by Romeo N Juliet 4EVA’s protagonist, Dean, reflect the realities of many young people today. The pressures of financial hardship, the challenges of navigating grooming, and the influence of poverty-driven choices are universal struggles for those growing up in deprived neighbourhoods. This film speaks directly to individuals with these lived experiences, while offering hope through creativity and self-expression. The film's themes of love, conflict, and self-discovery serve as a powerful tool to spark conversations around resilience, making choices, and the power of dreaming beyond present circumstances.

Following the screening, Paul Bucknor and special guests will engage in a panel discussion and Q&A, delving into how creativity can transform lives. This is a unique opportunity to learn from and be inspired by those who have taken bold steps to fulfil their dreams.

Romeo N Juliet 4EVA makes Shakespeare more accessible in a way that resonates with modern, diverse audiences and should not be missed.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
