London Festival of Architecture event: Wolves Lane, a vision for sustainable communities through innovative design and construction

Wednesday 5 June 5.00pm - 7.00pm

Wolves Lane Centre & Palm House, Wolves Lane, N22 5JD

The Wolves Lane Centre is a unique and welcoming hub for urban food production, housed in a blend of new, cutting-edge sustainable buildings designed by Studio Gil and Material Cultures, alongside historic glasshouse structures from the 1970s.

Established in May 2019, OrganicLea and the Ubele Initiative joined forces with a shared vision to transform the Wolves Lane Centre into a focal point for urban food cultivation, emphasising inclusivity for Black and racially minoritised growers. Within our community, we're proud to host Black Rootz, the UK's first multigenerational Black-led growing initiative, fostering knowledge exchange between seasoned growers and younger generations, nurturing a connection to our natural surroundings.

We invite visitors and community members to join us for an engaging event, exploring our innovative designs and construction techniques, including straw bale construction, lime render, sustainable drainage, and rainwater harvesting. This will be a unique opportunity to meet the architect design team and participate in tours of the Wolves Lane Centre new eco-building project.

Please arrive promptly at 5pm for a hard hat tour commencing at 5.15pm. The tour will include a briefing followed by a journey through our glasshouses and new buildings, concluding with further discussions in our café.

As this is a site tour, we recommend wearing suitable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. We look forward to welcoming you!

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
