St Harmonica's Blues Club: Mark Harrison Band + Hopperstomp

Friday 19 April 8.30pm

The Southgate Club, 17 Chase Side, N14 5BP (Entrance is in Crown Lane)

202404 mark harrison

It’s always a delight to host Mark Harrison and his band. He is widely considered one of the most original and interesting artists currently operating in the UK, a particular favourite of Cerys Matthews and her Radio 2 Blues Show. His highly individual, all-original music has always gone down very well at St Harmonica's and it has taken him and the band to some of the top venues and festivals in the UK, attracting acclaim wherever he goes. He recently supported the legendary Albert Lee at a sellout performance. Nominated once again last year in the UK Blues Awards acoustic category and you’ll understand why on Friday evening. Mark is a songster, and his songs cover all manner of non-standard subjects that make you think afresh. With catchy tunes, lyrics that intrigue and engage, and striking rhythms, they make you smile, think and move. He takes elements of roots music, including folk, blues and gospel, to create something new that is very much his own genre.

The support this Friday is terrific too, in the form of Hopperstomp, starting from early 20th century jug band music and working outwards. Ruth Mignano brings her voice and presence along with too many instruments to mention alongside Dave Buckwell on guitar and bass. John Crowther provides his vocals with guitars and mandolin and jug, underscored by the percussive skills of Pete Abernethy.

Hopperstomp will play for 45 minutes from 8.30pm followed by 2 sets from Mark Harrison.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
