A shiftless young city man, four years into a five-year teacher training course but with dreams to make it as a singer in Australia, is disciplined by being sent to do a season of teaching at the village school of Lunana, possibly the most remote school anywhere in the world, at an altitude of 3,400m above sea level in the Bhutan Himalaya. Exiled from his Westernised comforts, and initially daunted by scale of the challenges he faces, he finds it a life-changing experience.
