A special occasion this Friday evening when we welcome one of the longest established bands on the blues scene to St Harmonica’s in the shape of Doc K’s Blues Band. Special and also a little poignant, as the band will be playing for the last time with lead guitarist Malcolm Hine, who is leaving to concentrate on his other music projects. Malcolm, aka 'Wood Green Slim' and 'Little Mal’, is rated by many as the finest blues guitarist in North London, and you’ll see why this Friday. The rest of the band thought it would be good to celebrate Malcolm’s 35 years with the band before he either moves to the Isle of Wight or dies! So expect a spirited performance from these veterans of the blues world, who include Mick Parker on drums, Dave Thomas on bass, Chris Hargrave on harmonica and vocals and Mad Dog Dave Barnes on slide guitar and vocals. Doc K have already gigged with Malcolm’s replacement, Doctor Ika, a genuine Medical Doctor for the band (retired), originally from Georgia, who we hope will join us on Friday evening for a smooth handing over of the baton from Little Mal.
Support on Friday is from Steve Cook, a fine singer and guitarist in the swamp blues tradition who will get things rocking from the start.
Support act starts at 8.30pm, followed by two sets from the main act starting around 9.15pm. Admission is free to card holding St Harmonica’s Blues Club Members (membership costs just £10 for the year) otherwise £10 on the door. The hat is passed around to pay for the musicians.
See you soon,
Dave, Simon, & John
