The upcoming bank holiday sees the opening of a large wildlife reserve that includes two reservoirs hoding water that has travelled along the New River, through Palmers Green. The Woodberry Wetlands project is run by the London Wildlife Trust and is making the area accessible to the public for the first time since the reservoirs were built in 1833.

One of London’s best kept secrets is about to be unveiled by London Wildlife Trust to an unsuspecting public on 1st May 2016. Open for unrestricted access for the first time in its two hundred year old history, Woodberry Wetlands is a vast wildlife oasis in the heart of urban London and one of the most captivating natural spaces the city has seen in recent times. Spanning 11 hectares, this long term project of habitat improvement and heritage restoration is situated upon a stretch of the New River and engulfs Stoke Newington East Reservoir in Hackney.
We will be offering free guided tours of the reserve over the bank holiday opening weekend on Sunday 1st and Monday 2nd May at 10:00, 12:00 and 14:00 and will opening for free visitor admission from 8:00am – 5:00pm daily. The tours groups are to meet outside Lizzy’s at the Coal House Café located at the end of the boardwalk from the main entrance to the reserve.
