If you're planning to send charity Christmas cards this year, be careful where you buy them from!  If you purchase them from a well-known High Street name, the chances are that most of the money you spend will go to the retailer, not to the charity.  Very few shops pass on more than 25 per cent of the selling price to the named charity, and the average figure is actually closer to 10 per cent.

cardsforgoodcausesThe alternative is to buy from a pop-up charity Christmas card shop run by Cards for Good Causes.  You don't need to go far to find one, as for the 22nd year in succession there will be a pop-up shop at Palmers Green United Reformed Church, which if you don't know it is located on the corner of Burford Gardens and Fox Lane (postcode N13 4AL).
In the past five years, charities have received more than £20 million from Cards for Good Causes - representing at least 70p in every pound out of which charities had to pay for the production and distribution of their Christmas cards and any VAT.

In addition to selling cards from 28 national and local charities, the shop will offer a variety of Christmas goods.  This year there is also a local card showing the Conservatory at Broomfield Park taken at sunset by Steven Harrison.

The charity Christmas card shop will open on Saturday 31 October 2015 at 10.30 am, with the official opening taking place on the following Saturday, 7 November 2015, at 11 am when the Deputy Lord Lieutenant  for Enfield, Mrs Ann Cable MBE DL, will officiate.

Opening hours are 10am to 4pm, Mondays to Saturdays until Saturday 12 December.

There's free on-street parking, the shop is wheelchair-accessible and our staff of volunteers provides a very warming experience with good service, coffee and biscuits and very good company too.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
