The charity All People All Places, which runs projects to help homeless people, is hoping to expand the Haringey Churches Winter Shelter across the borough boundary into Enfield to become the Haringey and Enfield Churches Winter Shelter.  It has the support of local MPs David Burrowes, Andy Love and Nick de Bois, who have all recognised the need for emergency accommodation, in particular for single non-priority clients.

The charity is keen to hear from anyone who could help achieve this by hosting, volunteering or fund-raising and hopes to launch the expanded service in December 2014.

The Haringey Churches Winter Shelter has been in operation since 2009.  It has a capacity of nine persons per night, who are offered an evening meal and bed, as well as warmth, friendship, security and hope.  The venue changes from night to night and the scheme is run by the volunteer efforts of congregation members from various denominations/faith groups and citizens from the local community.  They also aim to proactively assist their homeless guests in an effort to secure 1st and 2nd stage accommodation, and effectively break the cycle of homelessness.

During Winter 2012/3 Haringey Churches Winter Shelter accommodated 63 guests, of whom they succeeded in rehoming 54.

As well as volunteers, the scheme requires money to cover costs such as buying food and bedding.  Details of how to donate large or small sums can be found on the Supporting our Work page of their website - you can even donate via text message.
