A new document published as part of the process of drawing up the new Enfield Local Plan indicates that St Anne's school are proposing closing their site in Palmers Green so that it can be redeveloped for housing.

The long and slow process of formulating the new Enfield Local plan grinds on, producing ever more voluminous paperwork. One of the new documents recently sent by the council to the planning inspector in response to demands for new or reformulated information includes a table with the following entry:

local plan addendum st annes school

Decoding the cryptic terminology, what this means is that St Anne's was previously proposing that the site of its school in Enfield Town should be offered up for developers to build housing (with the junior school presumably relocating to Palmers Green?), but now they have reversed their position and instead wish to retain the Enfield Town site and instead offer up the Oakthorpe Road site for housing.

When I saw this the week before last, I emailed St Anne's asking if they had any comments for publication. However, I have not heard back from them.

The reason is obvious!
More shillings for Oakthorpe Road site.

The Enfield school site is (was?) in the Local Plan as yielding 133 new homes 5-10 years out. If finance is indeed driving this change of direction, that may give some ball  park for what can be expected locally. Its colocation with the Lodge Drive car park, another plan site, may be significant in what could be possible from decent placemaking.
