The three companies involved with planned redevelopment of the Fox have begun posting invitations to an exhibition and ocnsultation event through letterboxes.

The exhibition will be held in the function room at the back of the Fox from 2pm to 8pm on Tuesday 4th July.

fox consultation invite

Welcome to the public consultation on the development proposals for the Fox Public House in Palmers Green. Star Pubs & Bars has appointed Lateral Property Group to help deliver suitable proposals for the pub and the remainder of the site.

Our proposals

Our vision is to retain and refurbish the original pub building, providing a high quality ‘gastro’ pub, with a new function room and improved community facilities.

Public consultation

Star Pubs and Bars would like to invite you to a public consultation on our development proposals for The Fox Public House in Palmers Green.

This event will be an opportunity to view the current proposals, ask questions and provide feedback to the team.

Free refreshments will be provided, with fun activities on offer for children.

If you are unable to attend the event on these days we would still like to hear your feedback. Our plans will be published at thefoxconsultation.co.uk following our exhibition and there will be the ability to provide comments electronically.

The consultation website will not include any more detailed information about what Star and Lateral have in mind until after the public exhibition.  However, it has been known for some time that the proposal is to restore the exterior of the existing building, improve the interior of the pub while reducing its size and using some of the current pub as retail space.  The plans include converting upper storeys into flats and building new flats above the car park.

Be good to see it as a 'high quality' gastro pub. PG has a dearth of decent such venues, current Fox is a bit of a dump and the only other local is yucky Wetherspoons.

The presence of a function room used for community events was one of the factors that persuaded the council to register the Fox as an Asset of Community Value. However, the indications so far are that the proposed function space within the main pub would be long and narrow, making it unsuited for Talkies film screenings, comedy clubs and social events such as weddings and birthday parties. Something to bear in mind if you visit the exhibition and are asked what you think.

There are good things about this as regards the Fox itself; the Fox had been wasted asset for years and needs a rethink. However I'm unsure as to whether the function room is good enough for the Talkies though I think the proposal has been improved

I remain fundamentally opposed to the frontages along Fox Lane. Although "only" as high as the flats opposite, they are set back from the road and screened by trees. The bulk and block design now proposed look more like something on a retail site, such as Crown Lane off the A10. Stick a "NEXT sign on it and it would fit there.

They maintain that Enfield planners like this square block to signal the approach to the Palmers Green retail area. But at "best" that only works for traffic entering from Fox Lane, which we hoped quieter neighbourhoods schemes would reduce! And of course the shops and cafes start well north of here.

It would be a pity if this potentially great addition to Palmers Green resulted in this permanent poke in the eye! I can't believe that something less dominant couldn't be achieved leaving the iconic and reborn Fox as the key visual indicator, if one is needed.

This is not however a plea for a pastiche of the historic style.

I visited the exhibition and was a bit disappointed with the proposed plans (as they currently stand). The developers / brewery are suggesting that the pub will be family friendly however there is no outside space suitable for families with the only outside space allocated (which they have ambitiously called 'The Terrace') on the pavement near to a busy road and where I presume the smokers will go.

It seems that they are trying to squeeze as much space out of the car park for housing (which will be extremely profitable). I agree with Colin that the aesthetics of the design are poor and lacking in ambition .

If they get this development right then it could be the start of a regeneration of the high road and a great addition to the area. However, if they get it wrong it could just look cheap and tacky.

What we need is a great local pub which personally I would model on The Ranelagh in Bounds Green (but I can dream........)!

The Prince, a little further down from Bounds Green, is perhaps an even better example than the Ranelagh. Staggering turnaround of a pub that was an even bigger dump than the Fox! Now it's great.

Palmers Green could desperately do with a Ranelagh and/or a Prince.
