On Thursday 23rd June campaigners from the Stop the Edmonton Incinerator Now coalition will be protesting outside the annual general meeting of the North London Waste Authority (NLWA) in opposition to its decision to build a new waste incinerator in Edmonton. The latest anti-incinerator demonstration follows the news that, following intervention by Chingford MP Sir Iain Duncan Smith, communities secretary Michael Gove has ordered a review of whether the £1.2billion project represents 'best value'.
Friday is the start of London Climate Action Week 2022. A total of 162 events will be held, some in-person, others online, covering pretty much every aspect of the campaign to take action to reduce human-induced climate change and adapt to those effects of climate change that we can no longer prevent.

Local health service campaigners from Defend Enfield NHS (DeNHS) were out on the street at Palmers Green Triangle on Saturday as part of a national day of action in protest about the Health and Care Act, which comes into effect on 1st July. They were calling for the NHS body which will run health services in North Central London to undertake not to have private firms sitting on its decision-making board.
Archaeological work at the site of a Tudor royal palace in Enfield restarts next month. There will be opportunities to join in the "dig" and also to act as oral historians by interviewing people involved in the project or by helping film the interviews. Also during July there will be family days at the site of the palace and a definitive archaeological and historical study will be published.
In a bid to 'force the local plan process into the daylight', civic sector societies and community organisations in the borough have joined forces to launch a petition calling on Enfield Council to provide for thorough discussion of the revised draft local plan before it is submitted to the official government inspector. The deadline for adding your name to the petition is 31st July.
The local Royal British Legion community fundraiser is recruiting volunteers for the Poppy Appeal in October/November. The role involves manning stands with various poppy items on them and retrieving donations from the public.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about Anne Nicholls' work to relieve period poverty, both initially in Kenya, and more recently in Enfield. Later this month she's off to Kenya to continue her work, but before that, on 12th June, in conjunction with Jackie Lee of North London Yoga, she's running a Wellbeing Day at Mayfield Tennis Club. They've invited lots of small, local businesses to join them and share their expertise on fitness, healing, health or general wellbeing.
