Arbeit Studios are inviting artists to celebrate Palmers Green's high street by applying for a free residency at their newest premises, situated just off Green Lanes.
The residency, running between October this year and July 2025 and supported by Enfield Council's Workspace Launch Fund, offers free studio space to one Enfield artist or collective on a 3-month rolling basis, followed by an exhibition.
The invitation is extended to professional artists who reside in Enfield, with preference given to Palmers Green. "Artist" is used in the broadest sense, from visual artists to sound artists, poets to digital artists.
Dodie Finamore, Arbeit's community and site manager for Palmers Green, explained:
"The theme of the residency is ‘High Street Happenings’, celebrating Palmers Green high street, its diversity, opportunity and place in the community. As part of the residency and exhibition we want artists to engage with the local high street by, for instance:
-
-
- Taking influence from the high street's architecture, colours, people, businesses, stories etc
- Photographing places or people on the high street
- Displaying work in a local business or in Devonshire Square
-
"The creative(s) will also be asked to host workshops for the local community and are required to host an exhibition at the end of the residency."
Applications will be accepted between Monday 25th September and Sunday 15th October.
Arbeit opened its Palmers Green building in April. On the ground floor it has a multi-use space, which will offer an "ever changing programme of exciting opportunities and events" - this summer, for instance, it played host to a pop-up bar run by Muswell Hillybilly Brewery.
The artist studio space, where the residency will take place, is on the first floor.
