Local residents have expressed their support for the proposed Palmers Green East controlled parking zone (CPZ).

Enfield Council's preliminary consultation on the proposed "Palmers Green East" CPZ runs until 13th September.

Iain Pullar from Windsor Road said: "A group of residents have been writing to the council and our ward councillors for years asking for a consultation for permit parking to be put in place. We are grateful that the council has responded and hope that this time it will finally happen as it will bring untold amount of benefits to the local community."

Stephanie Doyle from Windsor Road said: "The issue is endemic throughout the day. If I need to leave the road I have to park hundreds of yards away when I return. Our road is next to the high street but those who visit and work in the shops are currently given equal priority with residents."

John O’Toole from Lightcliffe Road said: "I have lived on this road for six years and have never seen it so busy. We struggle with two children walking from streets away. Crouch End did this years ago and it's made a massive difference. Residents must come first."

Maggie Westhead from Park Avenue said: "We have three kids and worry about the speed of drivers on our road. If there are fewer people driving along our street looking for parking, it will surely be a lot safer. It would also be nice to park in our own street as and when we need to!"

Alex Atherton from Better Streets for Enfield said: "Controlled parking zones contribute to reducing pollution. Every car journey begins and ends with a parking space. Enfield has a low proportion of its streets covered by CPZs compared to other London boroughs. We welcome the consultations on the four new zones, and the likelihood of many other schemes to come."

Please say YES to Parking for Residents (CPZ)

(Text of flyer circulated by a group of local residents who support the CPZ proposals which addresses some misleading points contained in a leaflet distributed by Stop Palmers Green East CPZ and the Green Lanes Business Association)

please say yes to parking for residentsSearch Palmers Green East CPZ, take the survey and say YES to the plans.

The reasons parking for residents works:

1. There will be more space. Abandoned cars and multiple vehicles stored by local businesses/garages will go. Vans and relocation trucks that are left for days on our road blocking light will no longer be able to park for free. People will also remove their unused cars.

2. It will stop shop workers taking spots for residents who need it, like the rest of London, while still providing alternatives nearby.

3. It costs £155 a year for a large family car 1.6L (1599cc). A cup of coffee a week.

4. The council is not making money out of the CPZ - funding is also coming from TFL and designed to pay for itself to implement. Councils cannot legally use CPZ’s to raise revenues (search Barnet CPZ case)

5. Prices will NOT go up every year. The last set of prices stayed the same for 7 years on Devonshire Road, N13.

6. Better air quality. It would reduce traffic and speed as fewer people would use the road, knowing they can’t park.

7. Almost all other high streets in London have residents' parking off them. It encourages locals to love their area more as it’s not a dusty car park and therefore spend nearby. Almost nobody petitions for CPZs to be taken out!

8. Less litter from non-locals “car emptying” their rubbish on the road.

9. Easier for your deliveries, less aggression. Our roads are thin and mass parking is very dangerous.

10. Many have campaigned for residents parking for years. Families will stop leaving our street because of the stress of parking so far away, creating an increased demand for houses.
