[Green Lanes Business Association Survey]
Question 1. What do think is good about the area?
Good – active Residents Associations but with some flawed intentions. Business association with good contacts in the council. General ambience of palmers green was good.
Question 2. What do you think is less good about the area?
Less good – the general “mix” of pedestrians is getting rougher (groups of youths, too many pubs, gambling offices, late night pubs etc)
Question 3. What would you like to see to improve the area?
Improve – close pubs early, have more police (not kids) on the pavement, move people on if they are gathering in groups.
Question 4a. Specific aspects – traffic
Traffic – a lot of traffic passes through – think of something that makes them stop and shop
Traffic (hedge lane) – this has been a problem for many years and though the arrows are now painted on the ground you still can’t see oncoming traffic from hedge lane when you are coming down Bourne hill. . Needs filters
Question 4b. Specific aspects – parking
Supports ½ hr free parking, and also transferrable tickets and more than 2 hrs min
Often need to go to several shops for short visits so transferrable is good. Also, if having hair / beauty it can take 2-3 hrs, so often choose to go elsewhere where you don’t have to worry about moving car.
Question 4c. Specific aspects – clutter
Clutter – clutter should not be confused with “ornate”
Question 4d. Specific aspects – look of the shops/architecture
Look of shops – some shops look very grubby – shopkeepers should take more pride
Question 4e. Specific aspacts – type and range of shops
Type of shops – get more people on the pavement – incentives to actually look at what is on offer
Question 4g. Specific aspects – the Triangle public space
Triangle / clock – good idea – need a “statement piece” that would automatically be associated with palmers green
Question 4h. Specific aspects – Greenery
Planters – yes brightens up the area
Any other comments
Other – council should do more to encourage both new investment in PG and also encourage existing traders to improve –not just grants, lower rates etc but also with advice – point them in the right direction
