Enfield Council have promised to update the public on the future of Southgate Town Hall at the Area Forum meeting this week, and it is hoped that more information will be made available about work currently under way to improve the appearance of Palmers Green Triangle.

The meeting which is open to the public, will be held at Trinity-at-Bowes Church at 7.30pm on Wednesday 23rd October.

At the last Area Forum meeting, councillors confirmed that the former Town Hall building had been sold for conversion into private flats, and last week the Council announced that work to "segregate" the Town Hall from the adjacent Palmers Green Library would begin in November.  This will involve demolition of the Annex containing the children's library.

Another hot topic at the Forum will be Palmers Green Triangle.  Currently work is under way to cover over the underground toilets and remove the toilet railings.  This is being funded from the Residents' Priority Fund.  The Council has also stated that it will be erecting a clock on the Triangle, but to date no information is available about when this will occur or about the design of the clock.  It is understood that a real Christmas Tree will be installed on the Triangle this year.

The Council is hopeful that funds will eventually become available for more comprehensive scheme to improve roads and pavements at the Triangle and adjacent parts of Green Lanes and Aldermans Hill.  However, it is unlikely that this scheme will involve removal of the iconic triangular traffic island, as previously recommended by consultants - this proposal has reportedly proved highly unpopular with local residents.

The unannounced commencement of work on the Triangle has disappointed local residents' groups, who were told at a meeting held as recently as August that nothing had been decided and that they would be consulted before decisions were made.
