Bernd Koschland was born to a family of German Jews in 1931, two years before Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany.
Bernd, his mother, father and older sister lived in the town of Furth near Nuremberg. He was sent to Britain on the Kindertransport by his parents after the events of Kristallnacht (the Night of Broken Glass) and kindly agreed to tell his story to coincide with Holocaust Memorial Day. This is his story.
Mr Koschland was made an MBE in this year's New Year's Honours list for his services to Holocaust Education.
