Sally Everist from Friends of Broomfield Park's horticulture group updates us on work to keep the park's flower beds looking good and invites you to a plant sale.

herbaceous borders in broomfield park

The Horticulture Group at Broomfield Park has been working hard over the past year across many planting areas of the park that bring so much pleasure to so many people.

Highlights include new planting in the Gazebo Bed and the Fern Bed (formerly the Sensory Bed). The Remembrance Garden is currently looking particularly colourful, and the award-winning Long Border continues to be transformed with an array of new designs. Opposite this, new bushes have been planted in the Rose Bed, promising to be really spectacular this year.

202404 affordable plant sale

Help improve the park by buying lovely plants at great prices.

The herbaceous borders have been transformed over recent years through the great efforts of volunteers.

Each year volunteers grow a wide variety of young plants to raise funds for the historic borders and conservatory.

You can be guaranteed great quality plants nurtured with love and ready to plant in your own garden and home.

Cash and Card payments accepted.

Recent work has been lifting and dividing plants from around the park and these will be for sale in the Spring Plant Sale on Sunday April 28 from 2pm to 4pm, held alongside the Long Border. So if you have looked at plants around the park and either wondered what they are, or where you can buy them, this is a great opportunity to come and buy a good selection and also get some advice from our talented head gardener Victoria and some of the knowledgeable volunteers.

The volunteer group that works under Victoria has grown in numbers and there is now a strong regular cohort of both men and women across all age groups. They are always interested in welcoming new volunteers - you do not have to be a gardening expert! - so if you are interested, please contact them via the Friends of Broomfield Park website.
