Letter from Joanne McCartney AM to TfL dated 20 July 2023
Re X34 Superloop consultation response
I am writing with regard to the proposal to establish a new Superloop bus service, the X34 between North Finchley and Walthamstow. Much of the service will operate in my constituency along the North Circular Road. I support the superloop scheme and believe this could be a step change in offering viable alternatives for residents to speedily travel around London.
I am pleased to see that a stop has been added to the proposed X34 at the Green Lanes junction with the North Circular. Various residents and the Enfield Transport Users Group have also raised the following issues with me:
- constituents are disappointed that there is no stop at the North Middlesex Hospital, which was included in the indicative plans when the Superloop was announced. Whilst I appreciate there is a stop nearby at Silver Street Station, the distance is likely to be too long a walk for many patients and those with limited mobility, and I would strongly urge TfL to reconsider this.
- Constituents have also asked that you look into including a stop at the Great Cambridge Roundabout to link with services along the A10 as well as with other bus connections serving many other neighbourhoods.
In addition, constituents have asked for the restoration of the weekend night service on the 34 bus route, which has been suspended since the pandemic without any updates on its reinstatement. The 34 bus route connects various night demand hotspots, including Walthamstow Central and Arnos Grove stations, both of which are served by night tube services. The route also caters to night shift changeovers at North Middlesex Hospital.
I would be grateful if the above comments could be factored into any decision making. Kind regards,
Joanne McCartney AM
London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey
