NHS bodies in North Central London are seeking two resident representatives to join a team which will be piloting the introduction of Teledermatology - a new method of diagnosing skin conditions.

The Teledermatology Service will enable GPs to use a dermatoscope (a device used to examine the skin at low magnification) to capture images of lesions and rashes in patients 16yrs and over. The images will be sent via a secure IT network to the consultant dermatologist, who will provide advice to your GP about how to treat your skin condition or recommend seeing you face-to-face in clinic. The aim of the service is to provide patients with a much quicker diagnosis of their skin condition, by embracing the use of smart technology and virtual healthcare. This will reduce the number of hospital outpatient appointments required.

The pilot will start in January 2019 and run until June. It will involve about 30 GP practices and three acute hospitals in North Central London.

The resident representatives will be part of the Dermatology Implementation Group, helping in an intensive evaluation process of this new service and its effectiveness in producing better outcomes for patients.
