Redevelopment plans at Chase Farm Hospital receive final approval
The following report was posted on the Healthwatch Enfield website on 24 March 2016.
The redevelopment of Chase Farm Hospital has received the final go-ahead. The finalised plans were approved by Enfield Council in January, and have now been approved by the government, which is the final stage of the approval process.
Government approval of the full business case means public funds can now be released; in total the government is set to contribute almost £82 million towards the redevelopment. The shortfall will be met by the sale of surplus land; as part of this fundraising effort The Royal Free have now exchanged contracts for the sale of the school land to Enfield Council.
Construction work will start in the next few weeks. Enabling works to prepare the site (including demolition of unused buildings and alterations to some of the internal roads) have been ongoing since last year.
The Chase Farm site will include facilities for elective (non-emergency) care, diagnostics, out-patients, an urgent care centre, planned elective surgery and post-operative care, an older persons’ assessment unit and rehabilitation facilities.
David Sloman, chief executive of the trust, said: “With the final approval of the full business case, our plans to deliver a secure future and vastly improved facilities for Chase Farm Hospital can now become a reality.
“It is a great achievement to have reached this point so quickly. I would like to thank all those who have helped to get us here, including staff, local and national politicians and supportive members of the local community as well as those who have worked in partnership with us to develop the full business case.”
“I now look forward to seeing the new hospital taking shape over the next two years.”
