A much missed Bowes Park venue reopens...
The announcement of events scheduled for 23rd, 24th and 25th July at 101 Myddleton Road signals the reopening of a popular local cafe/bar after it was purchased by the community. The former Step, now rechristened Hillbilly Social at 101, will play host on Tuesday to Bowes Park Folk Club, on Wednesday to Homebrew Poetry and on Thursday to an open mic session hosted by musical duo That Blue Patch.
The reopening is the culmination of a campaign launched to prevent the ground and upper floors of the building being converted into a House in Multiple Occupation, in other words being divided up into small flats and bedsits. The campaigners first persuaded Haringey Council to designate the former bar as an Asset of Community Value, which then gave them an option for the local community to buy it. Which is what eventually happened.

Consultation on updated Licensing Policy Statement
Last week I posted a link to a consultation that was due to expire the day after the newsletter - if the council had tried to flag it up previously, then I'd missed it. So alerting the public to the consultation was issue No 1.
Issue No 2 was the fact that we were just presented with the full text of a long document without any attempt at a layperson's explanation.
Issue No 3 was that a key annex was missing.
Since last week the key annex has been published - but without maps of the parts of Palmers Green and Bowes that the "cumulative impact policy" will apply to.
Another change is that the deadline for responses is now 11th August.
